Welcome to the Emotional Piano

A deep-sampled library dedicated to soundtrack piano and focused on capturing the warmth, the wideness, the deep resonance and softness of a world class grand.

We've spent years searching for just the right one to capture. With ears pressed to wood and eyes hovering scant inches above strings, we tested literally hundreds of them before finding this one special piano. The sound of a piano is defined by a thousand things, from the lacquer on the wood to the hardness of the felt in the hammers. Our goal was purely sound: a soft, deeply resonant, rich, warm and soulful sound. We had no concern for brand, model, design or pedigree. We're not even going to mention the model and brand of the piano we chose for this library. Not because it is important, but because it is truly irrelevant. With all preconceived notions and expectations aside, this piano will either speak to you or it won't.

This is a big, dark, warm, lush, resonant piano. It’s intended to be a scoring piano. It is a piano for epic soundtracks, not fancy dinner parties. This piano wears a helmet flak jacket, not a tuxedo with tails. This piano is a door gunner, not a dancer. This piano doesn't retire to the New England countryside triumphantly after an extended run at the Met. It's buried 6 feet under in the middle of a Chicago downpour after being gunned down by the mob. If you ever find yourself storming a beach in slow motion or charging into a burning building to save a baby, then this is the piano that will play when your final credits roll. If you find yourself wearing a powdered wig and leggings, then this is not your piano… unless you're also carrying a musket and you've just been ordered to fix bayonets. This piano doesn't do romantic comedies. It does love stories and, more often still, it does heartbreaks. This piano isn't for everyone or every occasion, but when we think of a piano and really hear it in our heads and hearts, this is the sound of Tonehammer.

Without a doubt, this is my favorite instrument yet.  You have nailed it. From the first key I played I was in love. Since I already own so many piano libraries and kind of have my own tweaks for them, I almost didn't buy Emotional Piano, but I am so glad I did. This is truly inspirational. I just close my eyes and bask in the sounds. It also pairs so well when stacked with certain other instruments. I was getting some really nice sounds combining  it with part of Requiem. It also sounds nice and beefy combined with a quality bass guitar sample. This is the best yet. Thank You!

I created a piece with the Emotional Piano, Terries voice and VSL Appassionata Strings.
You can listen to it on my website:
http://www.aeronaut.be/music/RelicsOrigins/RelicsOrigins.html
I added some links to the Tonehammer pages.
Hope you will enjoy it!

I spent a week with it now and enjoy it more and more. After carefully fine-tuning the different parameters and the EQs it's possible to get a powerful, punchy, yet very emotional sound with any muffling. Very very very nice! :-)

Incredible work, gentlemen!  This is hands down the best piano library with the film composer in mind available on the market (if not the only one, really).  I'm seriously blown away.
Anyone still weighing the pros and cons, just buy it.

Hey Troels and Mike,
thx for this beautiful sounding piano. I bought it today, took some time to dl, installed it and then…
played it :-) ) I have many other pianos in my gear list, but none of these is comparable. It is indeed emotional. I am still smiling, especially after I combined it with the Reverence reverb from Cubase. It works quite well with the "medium concert hall" patch.
What I would love to know is how you exactly created the sounds of your demos. Is it possible to publish them?
would be great.

thx again

And I too needed yet another piano library?:)  After hearing this one, I realized that indeed I did, so have purchased it. By the way, the demos are superb, and I hope you'll provide some information on who wrote the pieces and played them. Soft Skin is especially haunting, and I would love to delve into it someday, and learn more about playing in that mode. Thanks again for providing another wonderful product at a reasonable price…………………….frank

There I was thinking I didn't need another piano sound, and you managed to prove me wrong. I can't wait for next month's pocket money. I'm gonna spend a whole night just playing Meet Joe Black and American Beauty.

Just installed and got it sitting on a track straight away.  First piano samples that I've found inspiring to write with and the first library or instrument that's impressed me enough to bother writing a message of appreciation!

Yes yes yes!! Both the Requiem and emotional piano sound irresistable!! But I can't put Emotional piano in my cart? And it's the 17th:-) Hope this is enabled during today!! I just can't wait! Here in Norway we are celebrating our independence day today – I hope to celebrate it in part by ordering both Requiem and Emotional piano! Tonehammer must be my favourite sample developers – a close second is Spectrasonics:-)

This sounds really beautiful!
My favourite piano's are the Ivory Italian Grand (Synthogy) and the Bechstein from East West.
However, the last one is such a strain on the system.
Yours would be a great addition to my collection. I'm tempted to buy it if the price is right… but then there is also Requiem that is tempting me…

i hate vi pianos. I'm not a keyboard player and every virtual piano i've used seems to stick out like a sore thumb. I like this one. I'm going to get it. Maybe I'll stop being such a hater.

I will pay what you ask for this. No questions. No hesitation.

The demos are really impressive. I know there's no such thing, but this really has "soundtrack piano" stamped on it. I'm really looking forward to fitting this into a couple of projects I'm working on. As in, they can wait till Emotional Piano shows up.

Really sounds great. I have just wanted to buy the new Galaxy piano from the Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, Germany. But now i have to wait until May. I am really looking forward to a piano from my favourite “Sample Company”. Will there be any further details about the “entirely new way of recording”?

tom

April 16, 2010

Seriously, most other companies should be ashamed of themselves after listening to these samples! They are simply brilliant and sound superior to all I´ve heard so far.

Tim Nielsen

April 15, 2010

Oh God, GIMME GIMME GIMME. I've spend HUNDREDS on piano samples, and still haven't found what I wanted. THIS is what I want!

Ug, why wasn't this around two months ago. This sounds lovely!

Darryl Brady

April 13, 2010

This is about the most realistic piano I have ever heard! I can't wait for the release! :D

Keith Fuller

April 12, 2010

this is very thomas newmanish – i'm assuming thats what you meant by being newman?

I can't wait.

Brian

April 11, 2010

Sounds great!  Wondering what is the reverb used in these pieces?

Manu

April 11, 2010

………you are teasing us again…. end may seems an eternity to play this beautiful baby…;   Finally someone understands the needs of a Soundtrack composer

Chuck Silva

April 9, 2010

Indeed!

ToneHammer is my fave sampling company.

You know. I make my judgement on the demo recordings that accompany these sites and am amazed at how most all of them are low quality.

It seems to me that if one is to pruduce a great musical instrument they should at least have a competent grasp of music.

Thank you ToneHammer for pimping my musical world!!!

Stunning stuff chaps. Just what I've been after.. something soft and real sounding. Very much hope you leave all the creaks and cracks in there too. ;-)

so nice! looking forward to get it in may.

Mina KHENE

April 8, 2010

Looking forward to get it in may. seems so long!

Niko

April 8, 2010

Well, that certainly doesn't suck!

I really love the tone. Very soft, darker, warmer (as you said in your copy above). And yes, much more "movie like" (whatever that really means… heh heh).
But yes, I could very much see the applications for this.
Damn you for making things I want!!! ;)

Any chance on seeing a version of this (perhaps V2) that goes in the direction of Sonic Flavours "Home Piano"? E.g. More affected piano sounds?

MP

April 8, 2010

Sounds great!  Can't wait to hear more.
Are the ambiences in "being newman" in the emotional piano library or are they unrelated?  Also, will there be soft pedal?

Isaac George

April 8, 2010

Absolutely stunning. Puts any sampled piano currently in my repertoire to shame. I'm primarily a guitarist, and synthesist second, but I WANT THIS NOW!!
As the locals here in Scotland would say: "Its drop dead gorgeous."
